Details:

Dhobi Ghat is used all over India for a place where local washer men wash clothes. It is an open air laundromat and the clothes from individuals, hotels, hospitals, firms and factories are sent here for washing.

One of the most well-known dhobi ghats in Mumbai is the Mahalaxmi Dhobi Ghat, situated next to Mahalaxmi Station on Western Railway in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.

Mahalaxmi Dhobi Ghat has been the shooting location for a Bollywood movie of the same name, ‘Dhobi Ghat’, directed by Kiran Rao. The movie features superstar Amir Khan (Kiran Rao’s husband) and was released on 21 January, 2011 in India.

    hi – am keen to know if you faced any hurdles in entering the dobhi ghat. I hear that normally they do not allow.

      Thank you for your comment. Entering Dhobi Ghat is quite easy. No hurdles at all. You can just go in and out anytime you want. You can even ask some of the boys of dhobi ghat to show you around the area. Just please be generous to tip them.
