Traveling Method & Time:

Tiruchirappalli – Ooty = by car (≈ 6 hours)

Ooty – Coonoor = by Nilgiri Mountain Railway Train (≈ 1 hour)

Coonoor – Wellington = by car (≈ 15 minutes)

Wellington – Ooty = by car (≈ 30 minutes)

Ooty – Tiruchirappalli = by car (≈ 6 hours)

Details:

Coonoor is a town and a municipality in the Nilgiris district in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. It is located approximately 25km south-east of Ooty. Coonoor is known for its production of Nilgiri tea.

Coonoor climate is very nice through out the year and just like Ooty, the average high temperatures range from about 17-20 degrees Celsius and average low temperatures between approximately 5-12 degrees Celsius.

Places to see:

1. Dolphin’s Nose Viewpoint: The Dolphin’s Nose Viewpoint is 10 km from Coonoor provides a panoramic view of the vast expanse of the Nilgiri Hills and Catherine Falls.

2. Lamb’s Rock: On the way to Dolphin’s Nose, one will pass Lamb’s Rock is which is about 5½ km from Coonoor. Lamb’s Rock is another vantage point to view the fantastic landscape and the tea and coffee plantations.

3. Lady’s Canning Seat: It is also a place to see in Coonoor, situated 9 km from the township Coonoor, on the way to the Dolphin’s Nose. Very close to Lamb’s Rock actually. The sight is named after Lady Canning, wife of the British viceroy.

4. Tea Plantations: Almost entirely of the local populace depends on the tea trade, hence the reason why you can see massive private tea plantations surrounding the hills in Coonoor.

5. Little Swtizerland: From a look-out point in Coonoor (via Ooty road), one will pass by an amazing panoramic view, nicknamed as ‘Little Switzerland’.
