Details:

The Nilgiri Mountain Railway is a railway in Tamil Nadu, India. It was built by the British in 1908 and was initially operated by the Madras Railway Company. The railway still relies on its fleet of steam locomotives. UNESCO added the Nilgiri Mountain Railway in July 2005 as an extension to the World Heritage Site of Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. The site then became known as “Mountain Railways of India.” The famous Hindi song “Chaiyya Chaiyya” from the film “Dil Se” featuring actors Shahrukh Khan, Manisha Koirala and Preity Zinta, was shot on the roof top of NMR.

We managed to take the NMR from Udhagamandalam to Coonoor and the journey took about 1 hour. The train moved really slowly allowing us to absord the spectacular views of the Nilgiri Hills.
