Details:

As the plane touched down in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India, my friends and I immediately boarded the waiting car we had pre-arranged much earlier and the driver drove us straight to Tiruchirappalli. We reached Tiruchirappali city in 3 hours 45 minutes and it was already midnight. There were 3 good 3-star hotels to choose from – Sangam Hotel, Breeze Hotel and SRM Hotel but we finally settled for Sangam Hotel (after all it has been pre-booked before we came to Tiruchirappalli). The next day, after work, we took the time to make a short tour around Tiruchirappalli city.

Tiruchirappalli, also called Tiruchi or Trichy, is a city in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. It is not only the fourth largest municipal corporation in Tamil Nadu but also the fourth largest urban agglomeration in the state. The name Tiruchirappalli is believed to have been derived from the Sanskrit word “Trishirapuram” – ‘Trishira’ meaning “three-headed” and ‘palli’ or ‘puram’ meaning “City”. The Tiruchirapalli International Airport is the second most busiest airport in Tamil Nadu. Here are the things to do and see while in Trichy:

1. Shopping at NSB Road, Trichy. Do check out Saratha, the largest textile mall in Tiruchirappalli.

2. For the Catholics, a visit to The Church of Our Lady of Lourd is a must.

3. Dine at some of of the restaurants serving authentic Southern Indian meals on banana leaves. Kannapa Restaurant (it has two branches in Trichy – at Salai Road and Thillai Nagar) and Raja Gardens Restaurant at Sangillyandapuram are two recommended restaurants. In the evening, you may see quite a number of roti canai (paratha) stalls by the roadsides around the city.

4. Tapau or bring home some authentic Indian sweets from Sri Krishna Sweets, located at Thillai Nagar.

5. Experience watching a Tamil movie the old fashion way at Ramba Cinema Hall, situated in the hearth of the city.
