Bangalore – Mysore = in a hired taxi (≈ 5 hours)

Bangalore – Kuala Lumpur = by aeroplane (≈ 3 hours 45 minutes)

Details:

Mysore is the second largest city and the cultural capital of Karnataka, India. It is well known for the festivities that take place during the period of Dasara, the state festival of Karnataka.

The Palace of Mysore (Mysore Palace) is a must-see attraction in Mysore. It is a palace and the official residence of the Wodeyars – the erstwhile royal family of Mysore. The palace also houses two durbar halls (ceremonial meeting hall of the royal court). The Mysore Palace is open to the public from 10:00a.m to 5:30p.m. everyday. However, you cannot view the Royal Throne in the Mysore Palace except during the festival of Dassehra, generally in the month of October. The entrance fee is INR 20 per adult.

The city of Mysore is spread across an area of 130 km2 and is situated at the base of the Chamundi Hills. From the top of the hills, a panoramic view of the city can be seen. The top of the hill has a few attractions – the Mahishasura Statue and the Chamundeswari Temple. Enroute to the top, visitors will pass the large monolithic statue of Nandi the Bull. Nandi is the vahana (vehicle) of Lord Shiva.

Ranganathittu Bird & Wildlife Sanctuary is about 18km from Mysore and is home to some of the most exotic birds. It is open daily from 9am to 6pm and the entrance fee is INR300 per person (foreigners). Additional INR300 per person (foreigners) for boating.
