Details:
Dae Jang Geum, literally The Great Jang Geum, and also known as ‘Jewel in the Palace’ is a 2003 epic South Korean television series directed by Lee Byung Hoon and produced by MBC. The famous TV series features prominent actors like Lee Young-Ae, Ji Jin-Hee Hong Li-Na, Im Ho, Yang Mi-gyeong, Gyeon Mi-ri.
Based on the true story of Jang-geum, the first female royal physician of the Joseon Dynasty, the TV series has caught the attention of Korean TV viewers with its unique combination of two themes: the successful rise of a female, which is rarely covered in historical genre, and the elements of traditional food and medicine.
The Dae Jang Geum Theme Park was built by MBC as the main filming location for the drama, which was later purchased by the South Korean government for tourism purpose. It is located within the MBC Yangjoo Culture Valley in Yangju, Gyeonggi Province, about 1 hour away from Seoul. The Korea Tourism Organization promotes Dae Jang Geum-oriented tourism in East Asia and the United States and the theme park has become one of the most popular tourist attractions in South Korea.
